Wind instruments

Wind Instruments: How to Choose the Right One

Wind instruments - a family of music instruments united by one principle: sound is produced by blowing air into the instrument. Each wind instrument has its own distinctive character, sound and technique.

Two Main Groups: Brass and Woodwind Instruments

Brass Instruments

Brass instruments are those in which the sound is produced by the vibration of the lips through a mouthpiece. They require no reeds - only the right lip placement and control of air pressure. The technique of brass instruments demands considerable practice.

Our range includes: trumpets, cornets, flugelhorns, trombones, althorns, euphoniums, French horns and tubas. Each of these instruments has its own niche - the trumpet and trombone are widely used in jazz, the French horn in the symphony orchestra, and the tuba in a variety of musical settings to perform the bass part.

Woodwind Instruments

Woodwind - a somewhat misleading name at first glance, since some of them (e.g. the saxophone) are made of metal. What unites this group of instruments is not the material from which they are made, but the principle by which sound is produced. This may be a vibrating reed (in the clarinet, saxophone, oboe and bassoon) or a stream of air across an opening (in the flute).

Our range includes: saxophones, clarinets, recorders, transverse flutes, cor anglais, oboes and bassoons. Woodwind instruments can be found both in the orchestra and on the jazz stage.

Harmonicas

Compact and accessible wind instruments also worth a mention are harmonicas. They belong to the wind family, but are more of a hobbyist or folk instrument than a classical music school choice. Well suited to self-directed learning, folk ensemble musicians, or anyone who wants to try playing a wind instrument without a major investment.

Exotic Wind Instruments

Our range also includes rare, exotic wind instruments - didgeridoo, aztec death whistles, various ethnic flutes and other instruments from around the world. These suit hobbyists and musicians alike who are looking for a distinctive sound in an ethnic music context.

Accessories and Care

Wind instruments require maintenance. Each instrument calls for its own accessories - reeds, mouthpieces, cleaning tools, oils, humidity systems, straps or cases. All of these can be found in our range.

Why Choose Us?

Trying out a wind instrument in person can be particularly important - many aspects of an instrument are best experienced for yourself.

This is especially true for those buying an instrument for a child - it matters that the instrument is a physical fit and that the child can hold it comfortably.

We have not only an online shop but also a physical store, so we invite you to visit us in Vilnius at Saltoniškių g. 29. Here you can try instruments freely, speak with our consultants and receive professional advice tailored to your needs and age. We deliver across Lithuania.
