Kalimbas
Kalimbas
Kalimba - a gentle and intuitive musical instrument
Kalimba is a small, melodious musical instrument, sometimes called Mbira or thumb piano. The kalimba originates from Africa and has a warm, soothing sound.
Kalimbas have a simple construction and are super easy to play - they are played with the thumbs, and the instrument sounds harmonious even without any knowledge of music theory.
Kalimba - a versatile instrument in your hands
Kalimbas are suitable for:
- Beginner musicians
- Children and youth
- Advanced or even expert players
- For meditation, relaxation
- For improvisation, creativity
- As an original gift
How to choose a kalimba?
- Material - solid wood body gives the richest sound
- Number of tones - kalimbas usually have between 5 and 17 tones. 5 tones are enough for improvisation or relaxation, for playing more complex pieces even 15 or 17 tones may be needed
- Tuning - tunings such as A-minor, G-major or F-minor, etc. are suitable for beginners or for use in relaxation or improvisation - in such cases all the sounds fit well together. Some examples of such kalimbas: Hokema B5, Hokema B9, or Hokema B11 Melody. For more advanced musicians or for specific tunes, diatonic kalimbas with a full tonal range, such as the Hokema B15 or Hokema B17, may be more suitable.
