Rain Towers: Rich Sound, Long Resonance

A rain tower is a tube-shaped percussion instrument that produces a sound closely resembling falling rain. It differs from ordinary rainsticks through a more complex internal construction and a significantly longer duration of each "rain shower".

Once you tilt a rain tower, the rain doesn't stop. Not for a few seconds - but for several minutes. That's the essential difference between a rainstick and a rain tower: the sound doesn't end in an instant, but flows slowly and steadily, like real summer rain. The same principle - just a more refined, longer-lasting structure.

How Does a Rain Tower Differ from a Rainstick?

The operating principle of both instruments is similar: small granules inside cascade through the internal structure when the instrument is tilted, producing a rain-like sound. However, a rain tower is essentially an upgraded, more complex version:

Playing duration - an ordinary rainstick sounds for a few seconds. A rain tower, depending on the model, can play for anywhere from 4 to 40 minutes. This is especially important in therapeutic and meditative contexts, where an uninterrupted, calming sound flow is essential.

Construction - rain towers use a more sophisticated internal system that allows the granules to fall more slowly and evenly. There's no need to hold the instrument in your hands - simply flip it over and put it on a surface.

Materials - the Mistura rain towers in our range are made from a variety of natural materials: bamboo, elm, or walnut. Each type of wood gives the instrument its own warmth and a unique tonal character.

Mistura - Masters of the Rain Tower

All of our rain towers are made by Mistura, a maker that specialises exclusively in this niche of instruments. Each model has its own name and character: from the compact Awakening (50 cm) to the monumental Mystery (120 cm). Models differ in length, wood type, and playing duration - so every buyer can find the right fit for their needs and space.

Who Are Rain Towers For?

Music therapists - a long, uninterrupted sound is especially valuable in therapeutic sessions. There's no need to keep tilting the instrument - you can focus entirely on your work with a client or group while it quietly "rains" in the background.

Meditation and relaxation - a rain tower works beautifully as a sonic meditation tool at home or in a studio. A sound that lasts several minutes creates a calm, continuous atmosphere without any interruptions.

Hobbyists and collectors - the natural wood bodies, careful craftsmanship, and distinctive names make these instruments genuine objects of interest even for collectors. A rain tower in your home is both an instrument and a decorative statement.

How to Choose a Rain Tower?

Length - shorter models (50–60 cm) suit those looking for a compact instrument that still offers a longer sound than a rainstick. Longer ones (88–120 cm) require even less human intervention, play for longer, and are better suited for more professional or intensive use.

Wood - the tonal differences between rain towers made from different woods are subtle; in this case, the best advice is simply to listen in person before deciding.

Intended use - for therapeutic work, we recommend longer models for their extended playing duration. For home use or meditation, the compact options work wonderfully too.
